Gathering articles and information - Half Term

You are soon to begin to focus in on an element of your project. This can be daunting, but you should see it as an opportunity to head down an avenue that is rich and interesting for you.

Your task over half term is to immerse yourself in 'reading around' your subject. Find and read articles from the web and books, visit the library, listen to podcasts and interviews, visit a gallery or museum, sneak into Waterstones and photograph books.

Keep a record of the articles and interviews etc that you have gathered. You will need to bring them to a lesson on the first Tuesday back.

Condense your notes into a conclusion.

Here is an initial general focus:
The art of subcultures

Here's how it could form your investigation:
An investigation into how the art of subcultures reflects the music behind the images.

Potential articles:
Art Chantry
Just Like Being There Film (about gig posters)
How to Photograph Subculture article
General Article about UK subculture

Here's another.
Psychedelic gig poster art
Here's how it could form your investigation:
An examination of the relationship between drugs and art and design.

  • The topic must relate to Art or Design
  • The topic should be something that you are genuinely interested in
  • A topic should provide you sufficient material to write about, while not being so vast that your project becomes all-encompassing, disjointed or surface-deep
  • Contrasting and comparing the work of artists can be helpful
  • Select a topic that is supported by quality reference material
  • Word your title so that it captures the essence of your Personal Study and indicates a well-chosen focus
